All workers employed in the Philippines whether in the government or in the private sector can avail of the benefits under the Employees Compensation Program for any work-related sickness, injury or death.
If you are a private sector employee then file your compensation claim with the Social Security System (SSS). For those in the government sector, you can file your claim with the Government Security Insurance System (GSIS). If you are self employed then you are not covered by the program even if you are a voluntary member of the SSS.
The funds for the ECP will come from the employers without any contribution from the employees. The fund is managed by the Employees; Compensation Commission. For as long as there is employee-employer relationship your coverage as an employee starts from the first day of your employment.
Among the benefits you can get under the program includes:
- Medical services, appliances and supplies
- Rehabilitation service
- Temporary total disability benefit
- Permanent partial disability benefit
- Death benefit
- Funeral benefit
