The world economy is at a downturn and the hardship and crisis that should have been felt during the past year has been masked by holiday spendings. Reality check: the New Year welcomes not only more economic downturns but also greater unemployment rate. If you have a job right now then the best thing to do is to hold on to it with your dear life.
But if you are among those who are still job hunting then don't lose hope because there is still a chance to get yourself a job this year provided you follow these tips:
1. Recreate your resume
Take a look at some of the most successful resumes and compare them with your own resume. Imagine yourself as a commodity that you have to sell in a very competitive market and then create your resume the same way that you would create a sales letter. Sell yourself!
2. Create a professional email address
You may think that having a jerk@gmail.com email address is cute but put yourself in the place of a prospective employer and see if you want to hire someone who has that email address. You can choose your own name when creating your email address but if you want something else then make sure that the meaning it connotes does not portray you in a negative light.
3. Use the Internet
There are lots of job opportunities in the Internet so make full use of the World Wide Web. You do not need to spend much looking for work for hire opportunities through the Internet. The only thing you need is research skills and determination.
4. Practice answering interview questions
You may have the best resume in town but if you do not know how to handle interviews then you will definitely lose that work for hire opportunity. Write possible interview questions and practice answering them at home.
5. Keep a positive mind
It might be a cliche but keeping your eyes and mind on your goal, which is to find a job, will help you down the road. Being determined is more than enough to get you through the hardship of getting a job but do not stop there because you need more than determination to find a job.
The New Year brings a lot of challenges especially to the unemployed but with a little luck and lots of hardship you will soon be able to find yourself a new job.
